Nystagmus
A young girl with a neurological sign called nystagmus. According to her mom, her cranial sutures fused too early and she needed brain surgery at 6 months old in order to relieve pressure on her brain. Now she's older and it looks like the pressure in her skull may be building, leading to her rapid eye movements. We're working on trying to get her a neurological/neurosurgery consult at the University of Jordan.
"ابو التهاب" is an Arabic kunya meaning father of inflammation or infection. Latin for "ignite," inflammation is an immune response triggered in the context of harmful stimuli causing pain, fever, swelling and ultimately preventing our bodies from functioning normally. Its often the first, painful step in the healing process.
Here, the hope is to ignite discussion on issues that are causing local or systemic reactions - both medically and socially.
